Education Minister Tunji Alausa has affirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to avoid labor strikes in the education sector.
In a television interview, Alausa revealed that the president has instructed officials to engage with unions such as the All-University and College Students’ Union (ASUU), the National East African Students’ Union (COEASU), the National College and University Students’ Union (NASU), and the South African Students’ Union (SSANU) to prevent strikes.
“The president emphasized the need to prevent a recurrence of university and college union strikes,” Alausa said. He added that the government holds regular meetings with these unions to address their concerns, despite previous governments’ failure to honor agreements.
The minister also denied rumors of strikes in higher education institutions.
